TripsMy wife Yue (known as Cathy to many) and I love traveling. We have taken trips in four continents and extensively in the US. Feel free to browse the highlights of our trips and tips on travel to that region.
We are flying into San Juan, taking a 7-day cruise aboard the Carnival Destiny, making port calls in San Juan, St Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, St Lucia, and Antigua.
In the spirit of spring break, we had a great one day trip to see the Sacramento National Wild Life Preserve, a snow-shoe ranger guided nature walk in Lassen Volcanic National Park, and a hot warm mud bath in Calistoga.
We visited our friends Andrea and Alex Jones in Portland, Oregon for a weekend. We toured the Nike Headquarter, went to Multnomah Falls for a hike, strolled around in downtown Portland, and explored Mount St Helen Volcanic National Park. Alex even treated us to home baked bread and home brewed beer!
The rise of China brings significant business and career opportunities for people of my generation. My interests in exploring these opportunities lead to become one of the Berkeley China Fellows. We went on a trip to Beijing, Tianjin, Hongkong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Wuxi, to visit some of the leading businesses and economic zones in China. The experience was highly rewarding!
We have traveled around the world during much of 2006, but we haven't seen much of China yet! This time, we spent some quality time in one of the most magical part of China, the Yunnan province, visiting the Stone Forest in Kunming, the Rain Forests and Dai Plantations in XiShuangBanNa, the ancient city of Dali, and the Leaping Tiger Gorge and Yulong snow mountain in Lijiang.
After Yue's Spring 2005 trip to Brazil, she has been longing to go back for a visit. We set aside a full 4 weeks to have a whirlwind tour of Brazil, the largest country on the South America continent. In 28 days, we visited the Amazon Rain Forest, and 11 major cities including Belem, Manaus, Sao Luis, Brasilia, Rio de Janerio, Salvador, Iguazu Falls, Curitiba, Joinville, Florianopolis and Sao Paulo. It was the trip of a life time!
Our good friend from CMU, Tejaswini Hebalkar, was getting married in Mumbai, India. She wanted a simple wedding, and it lasted 4 days! We took an extended trip to toured 9 cities on the Indian sub-continent. Some of the most memorable moments were early morning in the Taj Mahal, AVM Film Studio in Chennai, tasting Alfanso mangos in Mumbai, and of course, the wedding!
Sloan trip to South Korea!
